Honoring World Honeybee Day:

Concerned about our loss of bees, Morgan Freeman converted his 124-acre Mississippi ranch into a bee refuge. He hired gardeners, filled acres with clover, planted hundreds of flowering trees, purchased 26 hives, and has turned himself into a beekeeper.

On the third Saturday in August, we honor the honeybee.

My husband and I studied beekeeping and visited our mentor's apiary a few years ago.

Totally immersing, relaxing, and energizing.

Without the honeybee, we are no more.

Please honor the honeybee by being pollinator friendly and mindful not to use toxic weedkillers.

The honeybees and all life on this Earth, our home, thank you.

Charles Bukowski, on writing:

In the morning it was morning and I was still alive.
Maybe I'll write a novel, I thought.
And then I did.
- Charles Bukowski.

The Laughing Heart, by Charles Bukowski:

Your life is your life.
Don’t let it be clubbed into dank submission.
Be on the watch.
There are ways out.
There is light somewhere.
It may not be much light but
it beats the darkness.
Be on the watch.
The gods will offer you chances.
Know them.
Take them.
You can’t beat death,
but you can beat death in life, sometimes.
And the more often you learn to do it,
the more light there will be.
Your life is your life.
Know it while you have it.
You are marvelous.
The gods wait to delight
in you.

- The Laughing Heart, by Charles Bukowski.
